Confidentiality


In keeping with Alabama State Law, all patron records are confidential. The UA Libraries will release an individual’s circulation records only upon written request of University Legal Counsel and only to University Legal Counsel.

Under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) a patron is entitled to have access to information about his/her library account. If the patron has signed a FERPA release form on file with the Registrar, the library will disclose information about fines, and fees only to verified person(s) designated in the FERPA form.

Identification

All patrons are required to provide proper identification to check out library materials. UA Faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students who are listed in the automated system must provide a valid ACTion card without exception. Patrons from groups not listed in the automated system must provide current picture ID and official proof of status or purchase a Borrower’s Card at the Gorgas Circulation Desk. If a patron does not have proper identification available, materials will be held at the circulation desk for up to 24 hours.
