Elevators and the individual floors of the libraries are wheelchair-accessible with the following exception:

Restrooms

Restrooms in the libraries are wheelchair-accessible with the following exceptions:

  • McLure Library only has restrooms on the lower level, which cannot be accessed by elevator.  Wheelchair access to the lower level, and to the restrooms, is only available by way of the tunnel from Graves Hall.

Equipment

All libraries provide wheelchair access to public workstations.

Courtesy telephones are located at wheelchair level in all libraries.

Emergency Procedures

When an emergency occurs, users with special needs should seek assistance from library staff members. In the event of an emergency, users are asked to consult the emergency evacuation maps posted throughout the buildings.

In Gorgas and Bruno Libraries, Areas of Rescue Assistance are designated at all stairwells.  These areas are equipped with two-way communication devices, whereby a patron can communicate with the police and request assistance evacuating the building.  Additionally, emergency response personnel will check these areas as part of standard emergency response procedures.  If an occupant is unable to get to these areas of rescue assistance, he/she should contact the UA Police Department at 348-5454 and provide his/her location within the building.

In McLure, Rodgers and Hoole Libraries, if an occupant is unable to evacuate or needs assistance evacuating the building, he/she should contact the UA Police Department at 348-5454 and provide his/her location within the building.
