Biography:
Historian; professor of history. Born: Fairfield. Parents; Samuel and Clara Faye Bass. Married–Jennifer Synott, July 20, 1992. Education: B.A., University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1986; M.A., Uniiversity of Alabama, 1990; Ph.D., University of Tennessee, 1996. Sports information director at Birmingham-Southern, 1986-1990. Joined the Samford Faculty in 1997; became Professor and Chair of the Department of History and University Historian. Member Alabama Historical Association and the Southern Historical Association. Pulitzer Prize nominee, 2002, for Blessed are the Peacemakers. Received the Thomas Jefferson Award from the Jefferson County Historical Society, 2001, and the Interracial Friendship Award from the National Urban League in 2006.
