WINTZELL, JAMES OLIVER, 1905-1980

Biography;

Restaurant owner.  Born– Coden, December 5, 1905.  Parents–Oliver George and Minnie Isabel Bosarge Wintzell.  Married–Zoe Wilhelmina Schambeau.  Children–two.  Education– attended Spring Hill College.  Worked at Dunbar and Dukate Canning Plant; operated several retail enterprises.  Opened an oyster bar on Dauphin Street in Mobile in 1938. Business prospered and expanded over the years into Mobile landmark Wintzell’s Oyster House.  Retired 1977. Unsuccessful candidate for several local offices.  Wrote a weekly column for the Mobile Labor  News. Member of Bayou la Batre Housing Board and Chamber of Commerce.  Died July 25, 1980.
