Worked as a college teacher, newspaper editor, and copy editor before becoming a freelance author of novels for young people. Received the National Readers Choice Award for Major Crush; the Aspen Gold Award for Major Crush; the Aspen Gold Award, the Booksellers’ Best Award, and the Beacon Award for The One that I Want.
