Biography;

Teacher; writer.  Born: Ittabena Plantation, Perry County, July 10, 1850.  Parents; Richard and Elizabeth Bates  Carson Clarke.  Married– John Parnell, 1880 (used a variant spelling of the name as a pseudonym).  Education; Hamner Hall (girls’ school in Montgomery); Ann Randall Diehl’s College of Education and Delsarte Academy, both in New York. Worked as a governess and tutor throughout her life;  Taught elocution at Greensboro Female Academy; presented public readings from her works; travelled with the English actress Mary Scott Siddons to give readings.  Died August 21, 1907.
